Hinges

Tonight I had hoped to be able to make some brackets for the fire wall to mount to the subframe. But as there were no flat iron in the shop, I started fixing the old door hinges. First I tested the alignment with a round bar, but found out two of them still had the pin stuck in them. So we heated the brackets up with the torch, in order to hammer out the left pins.

Then we took apart the hinges on the doors, where all still had the pin in them. One of them was real hard to get out, it took several times with the heat, and then it had still only moved less than half an inch. So we finally yield, grinded the pin down, heated it up again, and hammered it backwards into the bracket. So now it is stuck in there, but on one of the hinges, I shall not use.
So around ten o'clock, I could hang the door on the cowl without having to hold it.

Next week the flat iron should be home, so then I'm back to the original plan - start up front and work my way backwards.

Subframe 3

My girlfriend wasn't home by 7:30 last night, so I took the chance and went to the Pirate shop, in order to fix the lowering legs for the cowl.
Cut and ready to be welded:

Welded topbrackets and in the straight angle bend:

Testfitting with clamps in order to try the placement of them and the cowl:

They needs some grinding of the weld in order to fit, but the height seems to match the cut in the front.

It was not supposed to be this low, but I think, I might end up liking it like this!

Next thing is to measure for the exact placement, grind the welds, weld the legs to the subframe, and then start fixing the bottom of the cowl, fitting the doors (when they are fix at the bottom), make the roof with the wooden skeleton, and then slowly start the rest of the body, which will be mostly sheet metal work.
Still thinking about fitting a rollbar on the inside of the rear wall - just in case of a crash, it might come in handy!

Subframe 2

Today Victor and Malene thought I should have a present, due to a unlucky incident sunday night.

It even included the instructions!
Okay, guys, point taken! I'll be more carefull. And thanks!!!

After that I got a little more work done on the subframe.

But in order to know the length of the legs, I had to decide how much lower I want the cab. And since I couldn't, Victor kept pushing "Just cut at the edge!", and finnaly, so I did:

Thanks to Martin and Victor for leaving the brushes and holding the cowl!

Now I have to decide, if I like it that low, or if Victor should weld the pieces back in!

Frames

I finally got around to pick up the wooden frames for the cab, so now I'm starting to have the overall measurements cleared up.

The wood, that goes in the back of the cab:

The wood, that goes in the top.

Still needs some of the wood, but the seller didn't have it.

So last night we started on building the subframe, using Tim's subframe for a longer model, so I'll have to shorten it next week.

Some progress.

I wasn't in the Pirate shop last wednesday, due to bicycle trouble.
So today, when I arrived, my first thing was to see the patch panels for the cowl, Victor made for it - and they looks great!

I have long wished for a dry-cruise, an indoor garage cruise-a-like, arm out the window-kinda moment, and finally it was time! To ensure headspace, we had to test the height of the body compared to the frame by holding the cowl and doors in place, and suddently I was dry-cruising! Thanks to Oliver for holding the cowl and door!

Afterwards I got to cut two pieces of sheet metal to make new bottoms for the doors.

And then it was 10 o'clock!

The first step.

Today, after a lot of sickness, I finally got to work on the cab for the pick-up! At the Pirate shop, there was only me and Victor, so I'll wait with the subframe, which was my initial priority. Therefore I started with the cowl, placed it on the empty frame and made a replacement piece for the drivers side bottom.

First things first...

It has been a while, since I thought, I was just about to start the project. But then a carcrash, finding a new winters car, working overtime and two weeks with fever had me in a hold with the progres.
Tonight I was by the Pirate Kustomz shop- it is wednesday!- and we actually started the project!... Well, we started cleaning and then found a space for me, where we put in a frame to use as reference.

And if I'm not bussy building a mini-bike, I'll start building the subframe for the cab next week.

Keep 'em kruzin!
